The Role of the Nervous System in the Planarian Regeneration II. Regeneration of the Body Fragments with the Reversed Nerve Cord
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In order to determine the influence of the nerve cord on the polarity of the blastema regeneration in Dugesia japonica, three groups of isolated body fragments with the reversed ventral nerve cord were prepared; 1) fragments with one nerve cord intact and the other rotated; 2) fragments with only one nerve cord reversed; 3) fragments with three nerve cords which consist of two intact nerve cords and one reversed nerve cord transplanted between them. Although the experimental fragments developed into regenerates of various shapes, the results in al the experimental series agreed in that a head is regenerated from the posterior cut end of the fragments with the original anterior end of the rotated nerve cord. From these results, we discussed the role of the biological polarity of the nerve cord in determining the differentiation of the regenerating blastema.

Membrane fusion/repair in nerve cells: a biophysical application in spinal cord injuries regeneration
Cell membrane has a critical and vital role in functioning and existence of nerve cells that form central nervous system (CNS) in mammals. Disruption of nerve membrane that normally occurs following an accident injuring spinal cord is known to be the major cause of paralysis. In most occasions, spinal cord injuries are not leading to complete cut in spinal cord fibers but are known to cause cru...
متن کاملWhy does the central nervous system not regenerate after injury?
A major problem for neuroscientists and clinicians is why the central nervous system shows ineffective regeneration after injury. Injured peripheral nerve fibers reform their connections, whereas those in injured spinal cord never re-grow. Insights into the mechanisms for repair and restoration of function after spinal cord injury have been obtained by experiments showing that injured nerve cel...

Objective(s): Schwann cells (SCs) have a wide range of applications as seed cells in the treatment of nerve injury during transplantation. However, there has been no report yet on kinds of proteomics changes that occur in Schwann cells before and after peripheral nerve injury.Materials and Methods: Activated Schwann cells (ASCs) and normal Schwann cells (NSCs) were obtained from adult Wistar ra...
